This series follows the lives of 3 First Ladies: Michelle Obama (Viola Davis), Betty Ford (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Eleanor Roosevelt (Gillian Anderson). The first 2 eps set up their ascent to the White House, while establishing their marital relationships. Ep 3 flashes back to how each couple got married. Thru it all, there’s an undeniable charisma from each actor in creating characters who are both interesting, authoritative and somewhat complex. Under the taught direction of Susan Bier (AMC’s The Night Manager and HBO’s The Undoing) each scene is meaningful or significant with some moments of personal interaction, although none of it has gone that deep yet. Still, learning more about these 3 exceptional and influential women makes the series appealing and interesting. NOTE: Look for local actor Irene Ziegler as Lou Hoover in Ep 2.
