The Last Stop in Yuma County

This film takes place entirely in and around a remote desert diner in Arizona. A traveling salesman is the first customer of the day, but before long others show up, including a duo of bank robbers on the lam. As the plot twists and turns, things get pretty tense. This is the feature debut for writer/director Francis Galluppi and his appreciation of modern masters is obvious. Some of the most abruptly violent moments are in Tarantino territory, while the gallows humor reflects his love of the Coen Brothers. Luckily, he’s learned well, because this little crime thriller is chocked with clever surprises that elicit squeals of deranged delight right up to the final frame. Cinematographer Mac Fisken’s attractive noir look and the strong performances do a great job of helping Galluppi realize his mastery of the genre. Highly entertaining, often surprising and lots of twisted fun. 4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)
