The Pickup

Eddie Murphy plays the long-time armored car driver who’s paired up with the flaky new guy (Pete Davidson). On their first ride, they encounter a group of criminals trying to commandeer their truck. The duo has the expected saucy repartee, which takes them from foes to friends over the course of the film. Their chemistry is good, not great, with Murphy in his usual wise crack style, while Davidson working hard to expand his comic skills as the hapless partner. Director Tim Story’s car crashes are spectacular and the film’s best asset. The plot (and recovery of some of the villains) borders on absurd and there aren’t a lot of truly funny moments. Even so, the energetic repartee of the two leads manages to make this movie passable without being memorable. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
