Even though this is set in a fairytale kingdom, the action is full-bore 21st century with dozens of cracked bones and quick kills (albeit with swords, knives and fists). Joey King stars as a princess betrothed to a man who is out to steal the throne from her father. She spends the entire movie fighting her way to a happy ending. Director Le-Van Kiet has created the almost-continuous, against-all-odds action scenes with clever choreography and smart staging. Some of the effects aren’t convincing, but that doesn’t affect the fights. Even with its medieval trappings and silly premise, this movie takes a modern approach to action and succeeds with lots of kick-ass fun. (4 / 5)
