After a couple gets into trouble with gangsters, the mother and daughter escape to the Cayman Islands. That’s where she finds her father (Nicolas Cage), a retired bum who used to be a special operative. Then the fun begins. Every bad guy who shows up is quickly and often cleverly dispatched by his “special skills.” Writer/director Tim Brown keeps the action moving, while giving the film a playful vibe. This includes the villains (Jackie Earle Haley and Ron Perlman) who are basically sweet idiots. This movie doesn’t offer anything new or unique, but it’s a pleasing, fast-faced and amusing little action flick that’s made even more enjoyable by Cage’s unique presence. (3.5 / 5)
