From Neil Gaiman’s DC Comics comes this fantasy that revolves around Morpheus, the ruler of the dream world (Tom Sturridge). The stories roam between his domain of mystical creatures and the land of regular (and some not-so-regular) humans. Of course, the dual realities blend as the titular character tries to repair “the dreaming” after his 100 year captivity. There are some interesting visuals and fascinating concepts (the Cereal convention is especially bizarre), but there’s also plenty of dialogue discussing the concepts and outcomes. The plots are a bit of a labyrinth, so it’s necessary to have this talking, even though it slows things down. This epic vision has sufficient elements to keep it interesting, but could use a simpler structure. BTW, there are technically 10 eps, but Netflix dropped a surprise bonus 11th, which includes an animated story (“A Dream of a Thousand Cats” featuring the voices of Sandra Oh, James McAvoy and Michael Sheen) and “Calliope,” which explores Morpheus’ ex-girlfriend.
