Amanda Knox started her 2007 summer abroad in a beautiful Italian village, until one of her roommates is murdered and she’s arrested for the crime. Thus begins an incredible ordeal that includes her unjust trial and four years in jail. This series sets out to detail this harrowing experience and it succeeds in telling an extraordinary story. In the title role, Grace Van Patten does a commendable job of handling the ups and downs with emotions to match. Sometimes these details overburden the show with too much information and repetition makes the series longer than necessary. The flaws in the prosecutor’s case are shocking, but this is told from Knox’s POV, so some subjectivity is expected. There are numerous cases of unjust imprisonment and this latest continues the outrage, while trying to set her story straight with sometimes potent storytelling.
