You can prob tell from her last name that Ishana Shyamalan is M. Night’s daughter. For her feature debut, she chose a style and subject close to her dad’s. Sadly, it has the same fate as his last few films: An interesting concept that lacks any tension or surprises. Dakota Fanning plays a woman living in Ireland, who gets lost in the woods where the titular creatures live. She ends up with 3 other people who are captive in the forest and must hide in a big box to keep safe. The mystery unfolds with sufficient allure, but the few potentially tense moments aren’t. Ishana knows how to tell a story effectively. She just needs a better script to give her the opportunity. Interestingly, her dad also has a film coming out this summer called Trap.
