The Whisper Man

In a typical movie setup, a father and son (Adam Scott & Acston Luca Porto) move to a small town, where the deceased mother used to live. It also happens to be the scene of the titular character (Michael Keaton), who abducted and murdered boys. Turns out there’s a copycat killer with the same MO. Enter the grandfather (Robert De Niro), who solved the original case 15 years ago. He reluctantly gets back into the hunt. De Niro’s performance is solid but offers nothing new, while Scott provides constant anger, which proves obnoxious. Only Keaton provides an interesting take on his character. As for the plot, it’s pretty standard with several of the twists near the end that are easily guessed. Director James Ashcroft has added nothing in the way of genuine suspense or even compelling dramatic encounters. He isn’t helped by a mediocre script. Despite the star power, this is a passable, but not special streaming thriller. 2.0 out of 5.0 stars
