Two by-the-numbers action films

Both of these films are in the Netflix Top 10 and they both handle familiar subjects in unoriginal ways:

Last Seen Alive Gerard Butler and his wife are having issues, but when she disappears at a gas station, the focus switches to finding her.  Thus begins his desperate effort to track down the culprit with the expected fights, none of which are memorable. This is purely by-the-numbers, nothing new or unique here. Butler can handle a role like this without blinking, but this is a quickly forgettable encounter. Full disclosure: I watched this a week ago and already had a hard time remembering any details…it was that forgettable.  1.5 out of 5 stars (1.5 / 5)

Eraser: Reborn Dominic Sherwood stars as a U.S. Marshal whose primary job is to fake the deaths of witnesses aka “erase” them. His latest charge (Jacky Lai) staunchly refuses to cooperate, which complicates the situations. Meanwhile, the expected villains are in pursuit, including the inevitable person on the inside. As action thrillers go, this one is clearly mediocre: The writing is dull, the fights are forgettable and the direction is flat. The actors are OK, but nothing about this film is worth recommending. 1 out of 5 stars (1 / 5)
