Tony Basgallop is a showrunner best known for Hotel Babylon, before producing 2 new series that embody his love for creepy, confusing stories.

Servant I stopped watching during Season One, but recently went back to complete the series (2 eps left). Lauren Ambrose & Toby Kebbell play a married couple who have sadly lost their infant. Enter the titular character (Nell Tiger Free), who brings a new baby with her. Thus begins the weird dynamic that grows into spectacular dysfunction and worse. The series is pummeled with sinister individuals and creepy moments. Since M. Night Shyamalan co-created this with Tony Basgallop, you can expect a constant sense of apprehension. There are a few shocking moments, but the mysterious origins of this intense young woman swirl around her powerful presence without much tension and no narrative gratification. 2.5 out of 5 stars (2.5 / 5)

The Consultant  Christoph Waltz plays the titular exec, who’s brought into a video game company after the owner is killed. Without any knowledge of the business, he begins to make drastic and bizarre changes. Meanwhile, 2 employees (Nat Wolff and Brittany O’Grady) try to discover his motivations, while coping with his cruel demands. Tony Basgallop seems to revel in creepy atmospheric dramas and this one is loaded. Unfortunately, the increasingly fraught situations continue to up the stakes, but there’s never any terror…just a lot of confusion and discomfort. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
