Two movies from Taylor Swift

I’m not a huge Taylor Swift fan, but I do enjoy some of her biggest hits and appreciate her talent. She’s released 2 shows on Disney+. (Click the links to access the shows.)

The first is The End of an Era, a doc about her record-shattering tour. There’s plenty of fun backstage footage, plus intimate interviews to show off her sensitive side. It also features the rehearsal process, including the concert appearances by Ed Sheeran and others. Future eps include many other aspects of the tour and her personal life, including Travis Kelce. Although it’s definitely designed to make Swift look wonderful, it also presents a fascinating look at the makings of this massive show. (Review based on 2 out of 6 one-hour eps) 3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is the filmed version of her 3+ hour tour. Of course, all of her best songs are featured, but this offers so much more. Even if you’re not a fan, the scope of the live show is impressive. The gigantic set, which runs thru the audience, is covered with screens, so there is constant visual stimulation, including cool animations and incredible lighting. The direction includes some lavish moments with unique props, cool outfits and the inevitable solo moments. The troupe of continually smiling dancers also adds a bit of personality. Being that the fans are such a bit part of the experience, there are constant cutaways to them singing along and gasping in joy. They’re also wearing special LED bracelets that light up the entire stadium in changing colors for an even more immersive experience. Thru it all , Swift’s confident stride, rolling eyes and tireless energy are impressive. After viewing, it’s easy to see why this was such a phenomenon. Even if you’re not a Swiftie, the spectacle of the staging is worth a look (you could just fast forward to each big number). 4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)
