This series, which premiered in 2019, is based on a treatment written by Bruce Lee and produced by his daughter. It revolves around a Chinese martial arts prodigy (Andrew Koji) who immigrates to San Francisco during the Tong Wars of the late 1800s. In addition to his fierce encounters with the warring factions, there are stories involving other members of the Chinese community, the white ruling class and the Irish immigrants who are angered by the loss of jobs to the cheaper-paid immigrants. On top of this are some of the best martial arts fights ever on screen. They’re not especially clean or pretty, but scrappy and rough. This series was created by Jonathan Tropper , who also did the equally scrappy Banshee and The Adam Project (my positive review). Even though the action forms the fulcrum of each episode, the characters are strongly developed and the plot continually develops in interesting and often sensationalistic directions. Season 3 recently dropped on Max.
