2 hits spin-off anthologies

These two hit series have spun off anthologies of one-off stories that sometimes reference to the originals.

Tales of the Walking Dead These stories revolve around the famed zombie apocalypse, but with different people and situations. Some examples:
–  Terry Crews and Olivia Munn meet on a mission.
– A boss (Parker Posey) fights with her surly employee (Jillian Bell) in a déjà-vu scenario.
– A  lone scientist (Anthony Edwards) studies the zombies
Each one stands alone and they’re much more about relationships than walkers. Because there’s only about 45 minutes, each one feels complete. Even people who weren’t fans of the multiple series can find these sci-fi approaches fulfilling. (Review based on the first 4 of 6 eps) 4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

American Horror Stories This series of individual installments is in its 2nd season. Some of the eps feature cast members and the plot elements from the various seasons, while others stand alone. They all venture into dark places with creepy stories. Some of them are inventive and juicy, while others are trying too hard to live off the rep of the series. As a result, they can hit or miss, but, thx to the short length, they’re worth a viewing for the sinister scenarios. One interesting fact: Each ep has its own unique title sequence that’s based on that show’s design. (Review based on all of Season 1, which was overall better, and the first eps from Season 2 with the final duo dropping in September) 3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)
