97 Minutes

As opposed to Hijack, which was a riveting ride (my review), this movie hits the same subject, but without as much heft (or Idris Elba). Jonathan Rhys Meyers steps in as the hero to save the hijacked plane from crashing, while Alec Baldwin heads up the ground response (with several deep monologues to take advantage of his drama skills). The encounters are OK, but there’s never much tension, even as things get perilous, which they do often. There’s lots of posturing and threats, creating angry interactions, but the overdone dialogue shaves off the edge. Even so, it’s passable for the type of disposable thriller you might expect (and if you’re not flying anytime soon). 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)
