Gods of Egypt (review)

This is set in a time when giant gods walked among the “little people” and ruled the country. When there’s a clash between 2 of them (Gerard Butler and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), a mortal (Brenton Thwaites) joins the battle to save the world…and his girlfriend. It plays out more preposterous than it sounds. There are numerous chases and fights (none are exciting or innovative), weird creatures (which inspire no awe) and fantastical locations (badly rendered CGI). To add to the absurdity: almost every character, except various slaves and other lowly types, are blandly pale with British accents (speaking ridiculous dialogue). At least it’s paced well enough, but that doesn’t overcome the fact that it’s cheesy, cliché-ridden and epically awful.
