Yeah, there’s a plot (and a tomb’s involved), but it doesn’t really matter. This is all about Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) leaping, running and fighting her way thru incredible obstacles. Thanks to Vikander’s skills as an actor, she creates a character with depth, which comes in handy for the emotional encounters. She also effectively handles the action sequences, which are evenly sprinkled throughout the film. Even though many of the encounters are well staged, they still have that video game feel. Still, it’s refreshing to see a hero who isn’t “super.” In this origin story, she’s vulnerable, yet determined and gutsy. This adventure breaks no new ground, but is competently entertaining.
