Skywalkers: A Love Story

Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus made a name for themselves scaling incredible heights on tall buildings around the world. This doc chronicles their early work, their burgeoning relationship and their final challenge, performing an acrobatic stunt on the spire of the 118-story Malaysian skyscraper, Merdeka 118. One of the best features of this film is that they shot video of most of their work (and even their private time), so there’s lots of footage. The climbs are all vertigo-inducing, even on the home screen they’re constantly chilling. After their “ascent” to fame, there’s a period where the relationship falters, but stick thru that drama lull for the last 30 minutes, as they make their difficult and demanding way to the spire. It’s as gripping as any Hollywood thriller. Ultimately, this film not only gives us insight into their personal and professional accomplishments, it’s ultimately an appreciation of their skill at creating daring and beautiful art. 3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)
