Andra Day plays a mom who’s struggling to keep the bills paid and her 3 kids in line. Turns out their new house is cursed by a demon that ends up possessing the offspring, while mom is blamed. Given that this was directed by Lee Daniels, a more grand approach is expected, but he forgot the tension part. The performances play out with extended intense dialogue and numerous personal encounters. Glenn Close, as the grandmother, seems to be enjoying the wild outfits and angry attitude. The scant effects aren’t special. Demonic possession isn’t a new topic and this movie brings nothing to the genre. It’s just a slow slog domestic drama with nothing original or remotely thrilling. It does NOT deliver. (1.5 / 5)
