This film is based on a true story about a white supremacist group that staged robberies and bombings in the 80s to raise money for their “revolution.” Jude Law plays an FBI agent who ends up in a small Idaho town that’s the middle of the mess. He teams with a local cop (Tye Sheridan) to find the leader (Nicholas Hoult). While the narrative plays out in a conventional structure, the strong performances and Justin Kurzel’s taut direction elevate this film to a more compelling level. While making strong statements about the trend of domestic terrorists, which are still with us, the film captures the challenges and conflicts of this issue with effective filmmaking. (3.5 / 5)
