Back in Action

The title has an ironic meaning because Cameron Diaz is back on screen for the first time in 11 years. She and Jamie Foxx play a married couple who decide to quit the spy game until they get pulled back in and end up on the lam with their 2 kids. The plot’s been done so many times, so it’s up to the writing, direction and performances to make it stand out. Luckily, all 3 elements add up to a rousing entertainment. Diaz and Foxx are solid fun in the leads with Glenn Close and Jamie Demetriou adding some delightful characters. Co-writer/director Seth Gordon has staged the action with impressive skill. The fights are full of great stunts and the chase scenes are equally rousing. The title’s other meaning also applies: This film is full of snappy action. Add a continually moving pace and charismatic leads and you get a darn good time. 4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)
