Keke Palmer & SZA plays best friend roommates. The misadventures begin when they realize that one of their boyfriends has blown their rent money and eviction is looming. This takes the duo all over their LA neighborhood, trying to chase down the culprit, while evading additional threats. The obstacles to their success range from slightly amusing to pushing credibility. The leads both have a natural chemistry, which is ideal since their friendship is the core of the movie. There are various supporting characters that add a bit of personality without much additional comedy. I’m not the target audience for this film and found it trying too hard to be outrageously funny, while only occasionally succeeding. Even so, the energy never lags and this particular “day” provides some raucous entertainment.
