A Gentleman in Moscow

Ewan McGregor plays a Russian aristocrat during the Bolshevik Revolution. Instead of being killed, he’s placed on house arrest in a magnificent Moscow hotel. This series plays out as he spends decades in this singular locale. He establishes relationships that add warmth, while others end in tragedy. McGregor beautifully captures the class and crisis of this gent thru the years and the rest of the cast is equally talented. The writing is not so wonderful. It’s not bad…just never especially compelling. The standout is the hotel itself, which is richly gorgeous. The historical aspect is interesting, but the series moves too slowly without sufficient high points to keep it as absorbing as its potential promised. (Eight one-hour eps) 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)
