Peter Dinklage plays an unsettled economics teacher whose dream is to own his own home. A beautiful property becomes available and he agrees to buy it for a low price…as long as the current owner can stay there til she dies. We eventually discover that it’s Shirley MacLaine, who’s just as plucky as always. Dinklage is also his usual compelling self, so the combo is lovely. The movie is a bit offbeat and occasionally amusing in the exploration of his character’s foibles and frustrations. While it’s never especially moving or funny, seeing the combo work together has its own rewards.
