Tom Cruise plays Barry Seal, a real pilot who was recruited by the CIA during the escalation of the drug trade and the Contra uprising in Central America. Cruise’s biggest character attribute is his million dollar smile (literally), but he has fun gliding thru this adventure. There’s not much character depth, but the film is well-paced and jaunty. Ultimately, the story is so incredible that it manages to be a fascinating experience.
