Idris Elba plays a doctor, which is convenient when people get injured in this film. He returns to South Africa with his 2 daughters to visit the village of their deceased mother. After some relationship drama they venture into the bush where they encounter a giant, raging lion…again and again. The attacks are abrupt and violent, providing some jump scares but little sustained tension. Also, there are a number of dumb decisions that undermine the drama’s effectiveness. Even so, the encounters create some stress and the direction keeps it moving.
