Keira Knightley plays a happily-married mother of two, who also happens to be a spy for a secret organization that sells secrets to the highest bidder (with Sarah Lancashire as her boss). Ben Whishaw is cast as the “trigger man,” who’s brought back to London to help find the source of a series of murders that includes the Chinese ambassador. In most ways, this is a typical spy/procedural with revelations, reversals and action sequences sprinkled about. It’s all well staged. The performances of the 3 leads makes the series standout. Knightley copes with family and violence equally, Whishaw brings a steeley vulnerability to his cool killer, while Lancashire plays it stern. As with many current series, it could have been tighter with fewer eps, but it’s still a well-made sort-of spy thriller. (Six 45-minute eps) (3.5 / 5)
