Naomi Ackie is serving champagne at a high-end event when she’s invited back to the private island owned by the tech billionaire host (Channing Tatum). It starts out as a wild time with great food, drugs and all manner of party. Of course, there’s a dark undercurrent that slowly reveals itself. First-time director Zoë Kravitz has managed to keep things interesting, thanks also to strong performances from Ackie and Tatum and the crazy energy of the ensemble. Where the film falters is in the final act, when things are revealed, leaving numerous plot questions and a less-than-gratifying finale. There’s more promised up front than delivered be the end. Overall, a thriller that’s more interesting than tense. BTW, the original title was Pussy Island. (2.5 / 5)
