World War II is coming to a close, so a German soldier (Robert Maaser) is trying to find his daughter, while an SS troop is looking for gold left behind by a Jewish family. Thus begins the expected conflict between the merciless soldiers and the valiant civilians. While the plot has moments of surprise, this film is really about the violent action. Fortunately, the fights are well-choreographed and often brutal. Director Peter Thorwarth showed a strong thriller style with his previous series Blood Red Sky (my review) and he adds some clever staging in the encounters to ramp it up. Also, the women are just as much a part of the physical fight as the men. And they all fight hard to create an entertaining escapist shot at the Nazis. (In German with subtitles) (4 / 5)
