Chuck Lorre has been called the “King of Sitcoms,” but I couldn’t get thru even one episode of his biggest hits, Two and a Half Men or The Big Bang Theory. Apparently, when he can go beyond the strictures of broadcast, his work is more intelligent, impolite and funny (The Kominsky Method). That’s true with this series, which is built around comic Sebastian Maniscalco, who has the titular role along with his partner in crime (literally) played by Omar J. Dorsey. They travel around LA trying to collect their bets, while dealing with complications in their personal lives. The entire cast handles the comedy well, including a surprise cameo from Lorre’s past work. Add genuinely funny writing and the result is a slightly raunchy, expletive-laden comedy that’s quick fun.
