THE PLAY: This fictional fantasy gives a gay man his dream job: minding the stores in Barbra Streisand’s basement that hold her collections of dolls, costumes and more.
THE PRODUCTION: This clever script is inhabited by Dan Cimo with a chatty ease that makes it feel like his own dialogue. His effortless timing lands every cultural reference and makes the multiple characters flow with ease. Director Dawn Westbrook’s assured hand is also applied with understated skill: the pacing clicks along and the staging is always interesting (with the exception of several unmotivated exits). Alan Williamson has created an elegant “room” featuring large projections that add visual punch lines, while Michael Jarett’s lighting provides colorful visual variety and Lucian Restivo’s sound design enhances the gags.
THE POINT: Dan Cimo enjoyably inhabits this appealing comic fantasy with assured timing and easy charm.
