Quill Theatre has announced that Dr. Jan Powell, Producing Artistic Director, is stepping down from her duties. This is because of a family medical issue that requires her to be out of the country.

She came to RVA as AD of Richmond Shakespeare in 2013 and retained the position when they merged with Henley Street Theatre (which later re-branded as Quill). The board of directors hopes that Dr. Powell will be able to return to the organization in the future.

As a result, Associate Artistic Director James Ricks has been named as the organization’s new AD. He will be joining Director of Operations, Melissa Johnston Price, in running the organization.

Ricks has worked as an actor, director and educator for more than 20 years. He was also the AD of Henley Street Theatre from 2009-13.
