Clerks III

Kevin Smith wrote and produced the original movie in 1994 with a sequel in 2006. This final installment reunites the original cast. Randal (Jeff Anderson) and Dante (Brian O’Halloran) are still hanging at the convenience store, while Jay & Silent Bob are next door running a weed store (used to be videos). After Randal has a heart attack (an echo from Smith’s own life), he decides to make a movie about their experiences in the store. Natch, there are numerous references to the first 2 movies with various cameos from previous cast (and some other random surprises). Other than a brief role by Amy Sedaris, there’s not much genuinely funny stuff. Lots of energetic posing, most of which borders on silly. Even Smith’s usually witty way with words is minimized here (although his Silent Bob is the most entertaining character). Fans of the earlier films will no doubt be eager to see how this final chapter plays out, but anyone else is liable to see this is as silly over-the-topĀ  immature mumblecore. NOTE: Smith introduces the film and also talks about the making of it after the feature. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
