Dakota Johnson takes a cab from JFK to her New York apartment. On the 90-minute ride she gets into deep discussion with the driver (Sean Penn). This film was first a play, which explains the simple setup. They mostly discuss relationships and sex, with him giving her advice and her struggling with her beau via text. Johnson displays more depth than ever, while Penn grabs the screen with his natural sweet/gruff charisma. They’re both sufficiently compelling, although the dialogue never creates much real dramatic heft. It’s an interesting two-hander that focuses on the performances, because there’s not much else to recommend it. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
