Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

Writer/producer Ryan Murphy has an obvious fascination with dark characters (previously he’s examined O.J. Simpson, Versace’s killer and numerous creepy folk on American Horror Story). This notorious serial killer is played by one of his fave actors, Evan Peters approaching the role with a dark, brooding demeanor. The series follows some of his kills, layered with flashbacks from his formative years. The scene where his father (Richard Jenkins) finds out about his secrets is especially powerful. Even though Dahmer’s encounters are played out, the gory parts take place off camera. Still, there are plenty of creepy moments as we delve deeper into his deranged mind. Every scene plays out slowly, trying to build the tension, but it sometimes spends too much time and requires patience. Since this may be the darkest Murphy has ever gone, many people will question whether it’s worth a watch. That’s understandable, because it’s a deep dive into darkness that’s also disturbingly fascinating. 3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)
