Ryan Reynolds has been nailing his irreverent, sarcastic creation of Deadpool for several movies, so this time he teams up with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) for the wackiest Marvel film yet. There’s the expected saving-the-universe plot, but this is more about Deadpool’s snarky quips, witty observations and meta culture. Toss in a few cameos and personal references for even more in-jokes (and mustn’t forget the weirdly sweet Dogpool). Director Shawn Levy effortlessly handles the humor, while adding some wild action encounters. Jackman doesn’t get much opportunity for laffs, but he handles the anger and drama. It’s certainly Reynolds’ movie and his wonderfully irreverent sense of humor makes this more a very funny comedy, than a typical superhero flick.
