Mandy Patinkin plays the world’s greatest detective, who’s invited on a private cruise where he encounters his young protégé from a past crime (Violett Beane). Even though this isn’t an Agatha Christie story, it has many of the elements: A lavish upscale setting, eccentric characters and murders that keep happening with typical twists and revelations. The settings are beautiful (some of it was shot on the Queen Mary). The cast is full of “characters” and they do a good job. Everything is in place for a classic murder mystery and it’s sufficiently interesting. What’s it’s lacking is any real tension, which is degraded by continuous voiceover and constant flashbacks. As a result, fans of the genre will probably enjoy it, but, other than the style, there’s not much to make it stand out. 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)
