Decision to Leave

The film begins as police inspect a body that tumbled from a mountain peak in South Korea. As the investigation develops, the detective in charge suspects the widow, but his fascination with her develops into a romantic entanglement. Director Park Chan-wook alternates from idiosyncratic action to romantic drama. This one falls in the latter category, which also means a painfully slow pace and exaggerated emotions. Since the plot is thin, it’s up to the relationships to make it worth watching. They prove pretty tedious too. There are flashes of Chan-wook’s directorial flair, but they’re only fleeting. We can always look forward to his next action flick. (Korean with subtitles) 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
