Dicks: The Musical

Larry Charles is a comedy master (producer on Seinfeld & Curb Your Enthusiasm and director of BrĂ¼no). I can only guess that he convinced stars Nathan Lane and Megan Mullally that this would be his next outrageous success. Imagine their (and our) disappointment when this film turned into an excessive embarrassment .The plot involves 2 salesmen (writers Aaron Jackson & Josh Sharp) who discover they are long-lost identical twins and plan to reunite of their divorced parents (Lane & Mullally). Everything about this film is exaggerated to the point of eye-rolling (Megan Thee Stallion is their sexy boss & Bowen Yang as God). The culmination of appalling was Lane’s affection for the Sewer Boys (don’t ask). The filmmakers chose to subtitle all of the lyrics, many of which feature sex acts and genitalia in profusion. The songs themselves were unmemorable and the comedy is blown out over the top. Lane even said in an outtake during the credits that this was a low point in his career. Agreed. 1.5 out of 5 stars (1.5 / 5)
