Apparently, formerly edgy filmmakers Steven Soderbergh and Darren Aronofsky see something in director Eddie Alcazar, because they’ve both been his Executive Producers. Soderbergh’s name is on this newest project, which kinda revolves around a scientist (Scott Bakula) who invents a chemical that stops aging. His son (Stephen Dorff) tries to market the product, but is intercepted by 2 aliens. Meanwhile, there’s a group of women who stand around in skintight body suits. Alcazar chose to shoot this mess in a retro futuristic, black and white style with no script, which is obvious from the weird, rambling setups. The acting is often absurd, the situations weird and the big final fight clumsily crosscuts between stop motion animation and live action (he calls it Metascope). The often obnoxiously-loud music makes the murky visuals even more disconcerting. There may some sort of visionary talent in Alcazar, but this movie doesn’t prove a good showcase. (1.5 / 5)
