Dog

Channing Tatum stars as an Army Ranger, who’s assigned to take a fellow canine ranger (a Belgian Malinois) to a fellow soldier’s funeral. As with any buddy flick, things start out “ruff,” but they eventually settle into the expected warm friendship. Of course, they meet people along the way, but this is pretty much Tatum’s show. His charm works, but he’s battling a mediocre script. To further complicate things, this is Tatum’s first directorial effort, along with another first-timer Reid Carolyn. They do an adequate job of telling the story, but there’s virtually no warmth, so the emotion never materializes. They couldn’t even generate tears during the grave site scene and to compound matters, the dog isn’t especially endearing. 2.5 out of 5 stars (2.5 / 5)
