John Cho has never been high on anyone’s list as a serious actor, but this role may change that. He plays the single father of a teenage girl (Mia Isaac in an impressive debut). When he learns of his own terminal illness, he takes her on a road trip to meet her mother. First off, not really sure who the audience is for this film, but the performances make it appealing. Cho is charming when needed and disarming when the drama ramps up. The father/daughter relationship feels genuine and warm. Since their road trip isn’t especially interesting (and her actions are sometimes a bit frustrating ) and the writing seldom inspires, the primary reason to experience this movie is for their chemistry. 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)
