Ridley Scott’s take on “The Ten Commandments” stars Christian Bale as Moses. In the 150 minutes that the movie (sometimes slowly) unfolds, we follow his journey from Egyptian royalty to leader of the Israelites in their flight from Egypt. All the highlights are here, including all 10 plagues, the parting of the Red Sea and the creation of the tablets. Bale is his serious self and the rest of the cast is equally earnest. The only interesting thing about this big-effects 21st century version is Scott’s variations on the classic moments (some of which are impressive or cool). Overall, it’s OK without ever being awe-inspiring or even inspiring.
