Vin Deisel and the gang are back to save the world…actually, this time they’re out to save his character’s son. The new villain (Jason Momoa) only cares about vengence, so his destructive actions lead to even more absurd car chases. The whole thing is pretty much by the numbers, but the numbers have expanded into unrealistic math. The whole point of this franchise is to stage more and more outrageous stunts. They’ve pushed things so far this time that it’s more of a joke. Interspersed between the action are some attempts at emotion, but Deisel simply can’t handle that depth. Bad guys are often the most interesting people in films like this and Mamoa is no exception. He’s having such a fun time in his pastels…he’s really the only reason to see the film. Otherwise, it’s chocked with over-long and ridiculously-unrealistic stunts that just blend into one big noisy chase. NOTE: Sit thru the early credits for one final cameo. (1.5 / 5)
