Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Anya Taylor-Joy (plus Alyla Browne for the 1st hour) takes the place of Charlize Theron as the title character. Obviously, this is her origin story, which starts when she’s kidnapped by the Dr. Dementus (Chris Hemsworth with prosthetic nose and teeth). As usual, the plot is minimal, but that’s not what this franchise is about. To quote my review from the previous Fury Road: “This is all about spectacular stunts, incredible art direction and furious action. The relentless pace and virtually non-stop clashes. This film is inventive in the extreme and dizzying in its bravura direction.” (my full review) That all applies this time. The standout performance goes to Hemsworth, who manages to make his vicious villain occasionally funny. The credit for the creating Furiosa goes to Taylor-Joy, but Brown was just as exceptional with her steely glares. This series is all about what outrageous and cool machinations can be utilized to do the most quick hard damage and director George Miller continues to make it fun to watch. 4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)
