Emma Thompson plays a widow whose marriage lacked erotic fulfillment, so she hires a sex worker (Daryl McCormack). With minor exceptions, they’re the only characters in what becomes a dialogue about human connection. Thompson lovingly creates a nervous, tenuous character that’s not only venerable but amusing. McCormack’s performance adds the right amount of genuine warmth with sexual charm and physical appeal. Of course, all of the press is about Thompson’s nude scene, which is entirely appropriate. Her final close-up sums it all up beautifully. This is a genuinely appealing intimate two-hander about a short-term relationship that results in long-term changes for them both. 4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)
