Niecy Nash-Betts plays homicide detective with a drinking problem (nothing new there, although her thin flask holds a lot of swigs). A series of gruesome murders with a religious theme puts her in touch with a resourceful nun (Micaela Diamond) and they pursue the case. Being that Ryan Murphy is one of the creators, you can expect grisly crime scenes and much foreboding. There is some of that, but it never rises to the expectations for twisted surprises that he’s known for. Nash carries the show, but every dialogue scene could have been shorter and the narrative is somewhat confusing. In a smallish role Travis Kelce proves charismatically charming and the rest of the cast is solid. This series is basically a creepy crime thriller with more tedium that shock. (Review based on 7 out of ten 50-minute eps). (1.5 / 5)
