Hitman: Agent 47 (review)

The irony of this film playing now is the plot similarity to AMERICAN ULTRA, which is also about a genetically revved-up killing machine. This version is based on the Hitman video game, which is obvious from the nonstop, immeasurable body count. Rupert Friend plays the titular killer, who’s involved in some muddled plot about a diabolical corporation that’s trying to destroy him. The violence is dispatched in a cursory manner that’s all about cinematic style. Speaking of, the locations are cool (esp. Singapore’s spectacular garden) and everyone dispatches their roles with no emotion. While it’s paced well and full of noisy action, it feels lamely derivative and ultimately flat.
