The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of my all-time faves, so as a fan of slasher flicks, I was looking forward to this highly-hyped thriller. Nope. While there are a few gruesome kills, the time between them is agonizingly dull. In an attempt to be different, writer/director Chris Nash decided to shoot this from the killer’s POV, which entails many minutes of him trudging thru the woods to his next victim. Guessing he was thinking that the anticipation would create stress, but it just creates ennui. There’s no tension at all. And the “firefighter’s mask” he wears is a sad attempt to copy so many other masked killers. There are plenty of other slasher flix with creative, grisly methods of murder and they also have a modicum of plot, character and pace. Not this one. The unique concept fails miserably. (1 / 5)
