Jesus Revolution

In 1967, I was a senior in high school and still going to church. In an attempt to move my fellow Baptists into the current zeitgeist, I produced a youth festival called “turn on for Christ” (see the cover of the brochure below). This film chronicles the same movement from its origins in LA. Kelsey Grammer plays the pastor of a small church whose perspective is changed when he meets a charismatic young hippie (Jonathan Roumie). Together they create houses of worship that are opened to all, which expanded into the nationwide movement that still exists. As a faith-based film, this manages to make its messages clear with earnest portrayals. As entertainment, it’s professionally made and well-paced, but feels more documentary than drama. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
